Filterdirect
UV Water Purifiers
The
Filterdirect
range of UV units have been manufactured in the UK for over 25 years. These
products are market leaders and approved by health specialists for domestic
use.
How
Does Ultraviolet Disinfection Work?
The disinfection unit
comprises of an enclosed chamber with an inner sleeve of high purity quartz,
which contains a germicidal (shortwave ultraviolet) lamp. Water passes through
the chamber and is subjected to the UV light which shines through the quartz
sleeve.
Shortwave ultraviolet
destroys the genetic structure of micro organisms, therefore bacteria or
viruses in the water exposed to the UV light will be destroyed.
Ultraviolet light is one
of the safest ways to disinfect water since it does not use chemicals and
therefore cannot be overdosed. It also does not alter taste.
PERFORMANCE AND QUALITY
UV
disinfection units are rated according to the UV transparency of the water,
flowrate and level of bacterial kill.
Our units are
rated conservatively to cope with bacterial problems on well water supplies, providing
they generally meet EU water requirements.
15 and 30
watt domestic systems include a flow restrictor to ensure that the unit
capacity cannot be exceeded. These units are also rated for reduced efficiency
at the end of lamp life.
Do not assume that
alternative UV units are equal in reliability or can achieve satisfactory
disinfection levels throughout lamp life. “It is always possible to build
something cheaper by cutting corners”. The generally accepted minimum dose
level for UV disinfection of potable water is found in ANSI/NSF standards
number 55. These state that a minimum dose level of 38mJ/cm2 is
required to ensure adequate treatment of drinking water.
All units in this
brochure comply with ANSI standards

Lamp Service
Intervals
|
Lamps should be changed every twelve months of
continuous use. This period will be reduced if the unit is switched
regularly.

We recommend the maximum water temperature within
the chamber does not exceed 25 ºC.

UPVC / STAINLESS STEEL
Both UPVC and stainless
steel chambers are available, each with over twenty years of proven
reliability. UPVC units offer the advantages of UV disinfection at competitive
prices to the domestic user, whilst an extensive range of 304 Grade stainless
steel chambers are designed to meet the stringent requirements of the food
industry.
Available
options
UV Monitor,
Lamp/Electric Failure Indicator and Hours Run Meter.
PRE FILTRATION
It is strongly recommended that a five
micron particulate filter be fitted before the unit to prevent sediment from
obstructing the UV light.
